Toyota keys I make on-site
Whatever your Toyota needs, I come to you and handle it where you are:
- Lost all keys — a brand-new Toyota key cut and programmed from scratch.
- Spare / duplicate keys — a backup before you're stuck.
- Key fob & remote programming — fobs and remotes set up to your car.
- Transponder (chip) keys — cut and programmed on-site.
I cover most Toyota models, older ones included — Corolla, Camry, RAV4, Tacoma, Highlander, Tundra, Sienna and 4Runner. Tell me your exact year and model and I'll confirm before I come out.
Toyota drivers in Winnipeg call me most often to replace a lost key, cut a spare, or program a fob or transponder (chip) key for models like the Corolla, RAV4 and Camry — all done on-site for most Toyota models, older ones included, usually in 20–60 minutes.

Before any work, I always check your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID. It's a standard part of how I operate — to confirm the vehicle is yours and keep everything above board.
From $200 for a Toyota with no working key left · from $160 for a spare.
Toyota fobs and transponder keys start from $160, a smart / push-to-start key from $170, and an all-keys-lost job from $200 — taxes in, confirmed before I come out, and you pay only once the key works. I accept Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Interac e-Transfer or cash.

“Very pleased with the service from Gaucho keys, they were on time. Communication was excellent, they came right to my driveway and programmed my Toyota RAV4 key. I will definitely use their service again, highly recommend!!”

Toyota keys by year
- Early 2000s onwardtransponder (chip) key — tied to the factory immobilizer, which the engine checks before it will start. Common right through the 2000s.
- Across the 2010sremote-head key — many models fold the buttons into the head of the key.
- Higher trims, newer yearssmart key — the Toyota Smart Key (proximity fob, push-button start) first appeared on the 2004 Prius and spread across the range.
Spare or duplicate from $160 · chip, remote or flip from $160 · smart / push-to-start from $170 · all keys lost from $200. Varies by make, model & year, and you get the price before any work.
Two cars of the same year can take different keys — send a photo of your key or your VIN and I’ll confirm yours before I come out.
Toyota key types by generation
The three Toyotas I get the most key calls about in Winnipeg are the Corolla, Camry and RAV4 — and each of them switched key technology at a different point in its life. The table below sums up how the key types line up by generation, and what each one means for you when a replacement is needed. It’s the same information I use when I quote your job, so it’s worth a look before you call.
| Years | Model | Key type | What it means for replacement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early 2000s (E120) & 2009–2013 (E140) | Corolla | Bladed transponder (chip) key | Blade cut and chip programmed to the immobilizer in one on-site visit; a spare starts from $160. |
| 2014–2019 (E170) | Corolla | Remote-head key; smart key on higher trims | Buttons and chip are set up together; your trim decides bladed vs proximity fob, so I confirm from the VIN. |
| 2020 and newer (E210) | Corolla | Smart key more widespread | Check with me first (send the VIN) — smart / push-to-start keys are from $170. |
| Early 2000s (XV30) & 2007–2011 (XV40) | Camry | Bladed transponder (chip) key; smart key on some higher trims | Cutting alone isn’t enough — the chip must be programmed before the engine will start. |
| 2012–2017 (XV50) | Camry | Transponder or remote-head key | Both bladed types are cut and programmed on-site in a single visit. |
| 2018 and newer (XV70) | Camry | Smart / push-to-start, especially upper trims | Check with me first (send the VIN) — I tell you before I drive out whether I can program yours on-site. |
| 2001–2005 (XA20) & 2006–2012 (XA30) | RAV4 | Bladed transponder (chip) key | Even with every key lost, a new chip key can be generated on-site from $200. |
| 2013–2018 (XA40) | RAV4 | Remote-head on base trims; Toyota Smart Key on Limited and higher | Two RAV4s of the same year can take different keys — a photo of your key tells me which one you have. |
| 2019 and newer (XA50) | RAV4 | Smart key standard on most trims | Check with me first (send the VIN) — I tell you before I drive out whether I can program yours on-site. |
Trim and options change what a given car actually carries, so treat the table as a guide rather than a promise — I always confirm the exact key from your year and VIN before I head out. If your Toyota isn’t listed here, the same rule of thumb applies across the lineup: chip keys through the 2000s, remote-head keys across much of the 2010s, and the proximity Toyota Smart Key on newer vehicles and higher trims. The same goes for the Pontiac Vibe (2003–2010): it was built alongside the Corolla and Matrix, so its key is cut and programmed the Toyota way.
Tacoma, Highlander, Tundra, Sienna and 4Runner keys
Toyota’s trucks, SUVs and minivans follow that same broad pattern, and I make keys for all of them on-site — a work Tacoma parked at a job site, a Sienna in the garage, a Highlander at the office, a Tundra at the lake or a 4Runner that hasn’t moved since its last key vanished. The process doesn’t change: you tell me the year and model, I confirm the key from the VIN, quote you up front, then cut and program it right where the vehicle is parked. Wherever your Toyota sits — downtown Winnipeg, St. Vital, Transcona or out in Selkirk — I come to it.
Lost every Toyota key? Here’s how on-site replacement works
Losing the only key used to mean a tow truck and a dealership order form. As a mobile auto locksmith, I handle it differently: for most Toyota models, older ones included, I generate a brand-new key from scratch right at the car. First I confirm your year, model and VIN, and check your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID — standard practice before any key work, so a key is only ever made for the vehicle’s rightful owner. Then I cut the blade (where the key has one) and program the chip or fob so the immobilizer accepts it and the engine starts on your new key. On a push-to-start RAV4 (2019 and newer), Corolla (2020 and newer) or Camry (2018 and newer) with no key left, send me the VIN first — I tell you before I drive out whether I can do it on-site.
The car never has to move, and you get the full price before any work begins — all-keys-lost starts from $200, taxes included, with no call-out fee. And because I work on a No Fix = No Pay basis, if I can’t deliver a working key for your Toyota, you don’t pay anything at all.
A spare Toyota key now beats a lost-key call later
A good share of the lost-key jobs I attend started out as one-key households. A spare or duplicate Toyota key starts from $160 — less than the $200 starting price of an all-keys-lost job, and far less stressful than standing beside a locked car with no key at all. If I’m already out making one key for you, a second key for the same car, cut at the same visit, is half price. Manitoba winters are one more argument: a spare in a family member’s pocket means nobody is left standing in the cold because the only key went missing in the snow.
Smart keys and push-to-start Toyotas
The Toyota Smart Key — the proximity fob paired with push-button start — first appeared on the 2004 Prius and has spread across the range ever since, usually arriving on higher trims first. Replacing one involves more than copying a blade: the new fob has to be programmed to your specific vehicle so it can unlock the doors and let the engine start, and most smart fobs also hide a small mechanical blade inside for the driver’s door. I program many Toyota smart keys on-site from $170, and you’ll have the exact price for your year and trim before I come out. For push-to-start keys on a 2019-or-newer RAV4, a 2020-or-newer Corolla or a 2018-or-newer Camry, send me a photo of your fob and the VIN first — I tell you before I drive out whether I can do it on-site.
Toyota key acting up? It isn’t always a lost-key problem
Not every key call ends in a full replacement. A remote that has stopped locking the doors is often just a flat fob battery — an inexpensive consumer part you can swap yourself. A bladed key that has become hard to turn may simply be worn down after years of use, and cutting a fresh spare from the original often restores a clean fit. On a push-to-start Toyota, a weak fob battery is a common first suspect when the dash reports the key isn’t detected. Not sure what you’re dealing with? Send me a photo on WhatsApp and I’ll give you an honest read on whether you need a new key at all.
Why Toyota owners skip the dealership
A dealership can certainly make you a Toyota key — but the car usually has to get there first, which can mean a tow, and the key itself may need to be ordered in, which can mean a multi-day wait. I come to the car instead: no towing, typically a lower total cost, and the whole job handled in a single visit at your home, workplace or parking lot. You get a straight answer on timing, too — I’ll tell you honestly when I can be there.
Gaucho Keys is a registered business in Manitoba, and every key I make carries a 1-year workmanship warranty covering defects in my own work — the cutting, the chip and the programming. It doesn’t cover physical or water damage, a lost or stolen key, or the fob battery, which is a normal consumer part. If the cut, chip or programming I did fails within the year, I make it right. Prices are all-in with taxes included, there’s no call-out fee, and I’m open 8 AM–9 PM, seven days a week — evenings and weekends included.

Frequently asked questions
- Does my RAV4 have a smart key?
- It depends on the generation and trim. RAV4s from 2001 to 2012 use a bladed transponder (chip) key; the 2013–2018 generation has a remote-head key on base trims and the Toyota Smart Key on the Limited and higher; and from 2019 a smart key is standard on most trims. Two RAV4s of the same year can take different keys, so a photo of your key tells me which one you have.
- Do you program Toyota key fobs and remotes?
- Yes. I program Toyota key fobs, remotes and transponder (chip) keys on-site for most models, older ones included.
- My Toyota says the key isn’t detected. Do I need a new fob?
- Not necessarily. On a push-to-start Toyota a weak fob battery is a common first suspect when the dash reports the key isn’t detected, and a remote that has stopped locking the doors is often just a flat battery — an inexpensive part you can swap yourself. Send me a photo on WhatsApp and I’ll give you an honest read on whether you need a new key at all.
- How do I get a copy of my Toyota key?
- Message me the year and model (a photo of the key helps). I cut and program the copy at your car — from $160 all-in inside Winnipeg; smart keys are from $170. On a newer push-to-start Toyota (a 2018 or newer Camry, 2019 or newer RAV4, 2020 or newer Corolla) I check the VIN first and tell you before I drive out whether I can program yours on-site.
- How much is a Toyota car key in Winnipeg?
- A transponder (chip) key for a 2009–2013 Corolla, a 2007–2011 Camry or a 2001–2012 RAV4 starts from $160, and so does a remote-head key on a 2014–2019 Corolla, a 2012–2017 Camry or a 2013–2018 base-trim RAV4. A Toyota Smart Key starts from $170 — send me the year and VIN first and I’ll tell you before I drive out whether I can do yours on-site. All keys lost starts from $200, taxes in.
- Can a used or second-hand Toyota key fob be reused on my car?
- Sometimes, but not always — many fobs lock to the first vehicle they were programmed to, so a used fob that ran another car may never accept yours. Before you buy one online, send me a photo of the listing and your year and model, and I’ll tell you honestly whether it can be reused or whether a new key is the safer buy.
- Do I have to tow my Toyota to a dealership for a new key?
- No. I’m a mobile auto locksmith, so I cut and program Toyota keys right where the car is parked — your driveway, workplace or a parking lot anywhere in Winnipeg and the surrounding area. No towing, no multi-day dealership wait, and you get the price up front before I head out.
