Dodge Car Keys in Winnipeg

Almost every Dodge from 2000 on needs a programmed Sentry Key chip, fobik or fob, not just a cut blade — I make them on-site in Winnipeg, from a Grand Caravan to a Durango.

Open 8 AM–9 PM, 7 days.
Send your year, make and model — and whether a key still works — and you get the price.

Every Dodge built in the last two decades runs an electronic immobilizer, so a replacement key is never just a cut piece of metal. From the Grand Caravan and Journey to the Charger, Challenger and Durango, the vehicle looks for a coded Sentry Key transponder or a proximity fob and will only start once that key has been matched to its computer — an uncut or unprogrammed blank will not drive it. Gaucho Keys brings the cutting machine, programming tools and the correct Dodge fobs to you, so a lost or spare key is sorted where your vehicle sits rather than at a dealer service counter.

I’m a mobile auto locksmith working across Winnipeg and the surrounding towns, and Dodge is one of the makes I’m called out for most — often a Grand Caravan that’s down to its last key, or a Charger owner who wants a spare made before the original disappears. Whatever the job, you get a single all-in price up front — taxes included — and pay only when the new key works.

Here’s what I cut and program for Dodge, how the visit works, a model-by-model look at the key your Dodge likely uses, and the questions Winnipeg owners ask me most.

Dodge keys I make on-site

Whatever your Dodge needs, I come to you and handle it where you are:

  • Lost all keys — a brand-new Dodge key cut and programmed from scratch.
  • Spare / duplicate keys — a backup before you're stuck.
  • Key fob & remote programming — fobs and remotes set up to your car.
  • Transponder (chip) keys — cut and programmed on-site.

I cover most Dodge models, older ones included — Grand Caravan, Charger, Journey, Durango and Challenger, along with earlier models like the Caliber, Avenger and Nitro. Tell me your exact year and model and I’ll confirm what your car needs before I come out.

Dodge drivers in Winnipeg call me most often to replace a lost key, cut a spare, or program a fob or transponder (chip) key for models like the Grand Caravan, Charger and Durango — all handled on-site in a single visit, wherever the vehicle is parked. No tow to the dealership, and no days-long wait for a key to be ordered in.

How it works

  • Message, texttext or call. Send your Dodge’s year and model — a photo of the key helps.
  • I text you the all-in price before I drive out — that number does not change at your car — and we pick a time that suits you.
  • I come to you and cut & program your Dodge key on-site, in a single visit.

How Dodge keys and immobilizers work

Dodge shares Chrysler’s Sentry Key immobilizer (the SKIM module, later the SKREEM and Wireless Control Module), which puts a transponder chip in the key. When you go to start the car, an antenna around the ignition reads the chip and checks its code against the vehicle’s computer; without a match, the engine will not stay running. That security is great against theft, but it is also why a freshly cut Dodge key still has to be programmed to your specific vehicle before it will drive.

2018 and newer Ram, Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler vehicles have a security gateway module that blocks key programming through the normal diagnostic port — which is why some locksmiths send these to the dealer. I carry the 12+8 bypass cable for it, so a Charger or Challenger up to 2023, a 2018–2024 Durango or a Grand Caravan is an ordinary on-site job. For the new-generation Charger (2024 on) or anything 2025 or newer, send me the year and VIN first and I’ll tell you honestly whether I can do it.

The key itself has taken three main forms on Dodge. Older models carried a separate metal blade with the chip in the plastic head; from the late 2000s the Grand Caravan, Journey and others adopted the one-piece FOBIK that pushes into a Wireless Ignition Node and twists to start; and the Charger, Durango and Challenger moved on to a proximity smart key with push-button start. I carry the gear to cut and program every one of these on-site.

What to have ready at your car

Before any work, I always check your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID. It's a standard part of how I operate — to confirm the vehicle is yours and keep everything above board.

From $200 for a Dodge with no working key left · from $160 for a spare.

Dodge fobs and transponder keys start from $160, a smart / push-to-start key from $170, and an all-keys-lost job from $200 — taxes in, confirmed before I come out, and you pay only once the key works. I accept Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Interac e-Transfer or cash.

1-year warranty on my work · No call-out fee — you pay only for the result.

“I am so thrilled to have a working van key again. Andrew was so helpful and knowledgeable with replacing and programming and cutting the new key for my van. Communication was great and he actually showed up a few minutes before our agreed time, which is rare nowadays!”

Where I come to you

All of Winnipeg and the surrounding region — including Selkirk, Lockport, St. Andrews, West St. Paul, Headingley, Stony Mountain, Stonewall, Oakbank and Niverville. There is no trip fee within Winnipeg; for the towns beyond the city a travel fee is folded into the all-in price I quote you up front, so nothing gets worked out on the doorstep. Open 8 AM–9 PM, 7 days a week.

Lost every key to your Dodge?

If the last key to your Grand Caravan, Charger or Durango is gone, you don’t have to have it towed anywhere. With no working key on hand I pull the immobilizer data, cut a fresh key to your locks (or supply the matching FOBIK or proximity fob), and program it to the vehicle from scratch on-site — for most Dodge models, older ones included. To start, I just need current vehicle registration and matching photo ID so I can confirm the Dodge is yours.

Dodge keys by year

Dodge shares Chrysler’s Sentry Key Immobilizer System (SKIS/SKIM, later called the SKREEM or Wireless Control Module), which added a transponder (chip) key to most models from the late 1990s on — so essentially every Dodge from 2000 and newer needs a programmed chip key, not just a cut blade, to start. From the mid-2000s many Dodge cars and vans moved to a one-piece fobik key that slots into a Wireless Ignition Node and twists like a key, and newer models switched again to proximity push-to-start smart keys. Which one your Charger, Durango, Grand Caravan or Challenger uses depends on the model, year and trim — I confirm from your year and VIN, then cut and program it on-site.

Dodge used different keys across trims and build dates, so treat this as a guide rather than a guarantee. Send me your model year and VIN and I’ll confirm exactly which key your Dodge takes, quote the all-in price, and set a time that works for you. I also make keys for older Plymouth models — a Chrysler brand that uses the same blanks and equipment as Dodge.

Spare Dodge keys — cheaper to make before you lose one

The best time to make a Dodge key is while you still have a working one. Cloning from an existing key is simpler and costs less than an all-keys-lost job, and a spare means a lost or drowned Grand Caravan fob never turns into a stranded evening. I cut and program spare transponder keys, FOBIK keys and proximity fobs to your vehicle and register them so every key keeps working. For a busy family van, a shared Charger or a fleet Durango, a backup key is the cheapest insurance you can buy. If you’re not sure whether your Dodge takes a FOBIK or a proximity fob, send a photo of your current key and I’ll match it before I head out.

Dodge key fob & remote programming

If the buttons on your Dodge fob have quit or remote start has stopped answering, I can program a fob to your vehicle and pair the immobilizer so the car unlocks and starts. When the problem is really just a flat fob battery, I’ll say so instead of selling you a replacement. A used fob? Sometimes it can be reprogrammed, but honestly — not always: many are locked to the first vehicle they were paired with and cannot be reused. Send me a clear photo or the part number and your VIN before you buy — Dodge fobs also come in several frequencies and button counts, and I’ll tell you whether it is the right one for your Charger, Durango or Grand Caravan and worth trying.

Dealer keys vs a mobile locksmith in Winnipeg

A Dodge dealer can supply keys, but it typically means towing the car in, leaving it, and waiting for a key to be ordered and coded — usually at a higher price. I do the same programming the car expects, except I bring it to you: no tow bill, no lost day, and the all-in price agreed before I start. You pay once your Dodge key is cut, programmed and starting the engine — not before.

Dodge key jobs I handle around Winnipeg

The calls I get for Dodge tend to look like this — and I come prepared for each:

  • A Grand Caravan down to one key and a family that can’t risk losing it.
  • All keys lost on a Charger, Journey or Durango, with no way to start the vehicle.
  • A FOBIK that’s cracked or worn from years of sliding in and out of the ignition node.
  • A proximity fob that won’t start the car after a dead battery, water damage or a used-fob buy.
  • A newly bought Dodge that came with just one key and needs a spare or a full set.

Manitoba winters are hard on Dodge keys and fobs: batteries fade in the cold and worn FOBIK keys start to stick just when you least want them to. A spare made now is a lot cheaper and less stressful than an all-keys-lost call on a freezing night. Send me the year, model and what happened, and I’ll turn up with the correct Dodge key or fob for the job.

Frequently asked questions

Does my Charger take a FOBIK or a push-button smart key?
It depends on the year. The first-generation Charger of 2006–2007 uses a remote-head transponder (chip) key, the 2008–2010 cars a one-piece FOBIK, and from 2011 the Charger uses a proximity smart key with push-button start. Dodge used different keys across trims and build dates, so send me your model year and VIN and I'll confirm exactly which key yours takes.
Why do you want my Dodge fob's part number before I buy one?
Because Dodge fobs come in several frequencies and button counts. Send the part number or a clear photo first and I'll make sure it is the right one for your Charger, Durango or Grand Caravan before the visit. And if the real problem is just a flat fob battery, I'll say so instead of selling you a replacement.
My Dodge FOBIK is cracked and worn. Can you replace it?
Yes. Years of sliding in and out of the ignition node crack and wear a FOBIK, and worn ones start to stick in the cold. I cut and program a fresh FOBIK to your vehicle on-site and register it so every key you keep still works.
How much is a Dodge car key in Winnipeg?
A spare FOBIK for a 2008–2020 Grand Caravan or a 2008–2010 Charger, or a chip key for a 2004–2009 Durango, starts from $160. A proximity smart key for a 2011-and-newer Charger or Durango or a 2011–2023 Challenger starts from $170, and an all-keys-lost job from $200. For the new-generation Charger (2024 on) or any Dodge from 2025 or newer, send me the year and VIN first. All-in with taxes, given before I come out, and you pay only once the key works.
My Dodge has a fob that slides into the dash — can you still make a key?
Yes. Many 2008–2016 Dodge models like the Grand Caravan and older Charger use a one-piece FOBIK that slots into the ignition node and twists to start. I cut and program FOBIK keys, older transponder (chip) keys and newer push-to-start proximity fobs on-site — give me your year and model and I’ll bring the right one.
Is a locksmith cheaper than the Dodge dealership for a key?
In most cases, yes. I come to your vehicle, so there is no towing bill and no waiting for the dealer to order and code a key. You get one all-in price up front — no trip fee in Winnipeg — and pay only once your Dodge key is cut, programmed and working.
