Losing every key is the scenario people worry about most — but it is very doable. I don't need an existing key to start. Using professional tools, I read your vehicle, cut a fresh blade and program a new key to your car so it locks, unlocks and starts. For most makes and models, older cars included, all of it happens right where your car is parked — at home, at work, or on the roadside. No dealership, no tow truck, no multi-day wait. You drive away in your own car with a working key in hand.
A complete new key from scratch is from $200 — key, cutting and programming included, taxes included, and no trip fee in Winnipeg. $200 is the starting point for a transponder key. Smart / push-to-start cars and some makes cost more — you get the exact all-in number by message before I set out.
What to bring (important)
Because there is no existing key, this is where it matters most: I always check your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID before any work. It is a standard part of how I work — to confirm the vehicle is yours and keep everything above board.
It also helps to have your VIN ready (why I ask). You'll find it on the dashboard where it meets the windshield, on the sticker inside the driver's door jamb, or on your registration and insurance — it lets me bring the exact key for your vehicle.

🔑 Grab a spare while I’m there. Losing your only key is stressful — a spare means it never strands you again. Your second key is half price when I cut it at the same visit.
Which car key do I have?
Not sure what kind of key your car uses? Here is the quick way to tell:
- Basic / mechanical key — a plain metal blade, no buttons and no chip. Common on older vehicles (before 2000).
- Transponder (chip) key — a key with a plastic head and a hidden chip inside; no buttons, but the car will not start with a copy that has not been programmed. Most vehicles 2000 and newer.
- Remote / key fob — a key (or flip key) with lock/unlock buttons; the fob must be programmed to your car.
- Smart / push-to-start key — no metal blade to turn; you keep the fob in your pocket and press a Start button. A proximity key, fully programmed to the vehicle.

- Can you make a car key if I have lost all of them?
- Yes. Even with no working key at all, I can generate and program a brand-new key from scratch, on-site, for most makes and models, older cars included. You do not need the original key.
- What do I need to provide if every key is lost?
- Your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID — with no key to show, they are the proof the car is yours, so I check them before any work starts. Have your VIN ready too: it tells me exactly which key to bring.
- How long does an all-keys-lost job take?
- It usually takes a bit longer than copying a spare, because I generate the key from scratch — but in most cases you are back on the road the same visit, after about 30 to 60 minutes of work at your car, depending on your vehicle. A few makes need a security code looked up first — I tell you when you message, so we book a time the job can be finished.
- How much does it cost when all keys are lost?
- Lost car key replacement starts from $200, with the exact price depending on your vehicle and key type. You get the price up front and pay only once the new key works.
- What do you need from me for an exact price?
- The year, make and model, your VIN (with no key left to photograph, the VIN does that job), and the area or town where the car is. An all-keys-lost job usually comes in above the $200 starting point, so I send you the exact all-in number before I set out — with no travel fee inside Winnipeg, and a travel fee already included in that number for the surrounding towns.
- Why does a Ford with no keys left need two new keys?
- On many Fords, when every key is lost, two keys have to be programmed before the car will start — that is how Ford’s system works, not an extra I add, and it is counted in the price I give you before I set out. On a Ford with push-to-start, send me the VIN first and I’ll confirm what is possible before I come out.
