Ford F-150 keys I make on-site

The Ford F-150 is the most popular truck around Winnipeg, and I make F-150 keys often. F-150 trucks from 2000 and newer use transponder or remote-head keys, and newer ones use push-to-start smart keys — I cut and program them where you are parked, with no towing. The one case to check first is a push-to-start F-150 with every key lost: send me the year and VIN and I tell you before I drive out whether I can do it on-site. A second key done at the same visit is half price.

  • Lost all keys — a brand-new Ford F-150 key cut and programmed from scratch.
  • Spare / duplicate keys — a backup before you are stuck.
  • Key fob & remote programming — fobs and remotes set up to your Ford F-150.
  • Chip & push-to-start keys — cut and programmed on the spot, depending on your year and trim.

Ford F-150 keys by year

Every F-150 from 2000 and newer runs Ford’s PATS transponder immobilizer, so the key carries a chip that has to be programmed to the truck. Through roughly 2004–2014 the F-150 typically used a transponder or remote-head key (blade and remote buttons in one). From the 2015 (13th-generation) truck onward it splits by trim: work trims like XL and XLT usually take a bladed flip key, while Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum use Ford Intelligent Access proximity push-to-start smart keys — and that split carried into the 2021-and-newer trucks. Tell me your year and trim, or send the VIN, and I confirm exactly what your F-150 needs, then cut and program it on-site.

Ford F-150 key or fob not working? Common fixes

Every F-150 from 2000 on runs Ford’s PATS immobilizer, so the chip has to be programmed to the truck. Work trims usually take a bladed flip key; Lariat and up use Intelligent Access push-to-start.

  • PATS immobilizer won’t let it start — The truck cranks but won’t run because PATS isn’t reading the chip. I program a chip key coded to your F-150.
  • Intelligent Access fob won’t start the truck — A dying fob battery or a de-synced proximity fob stops a push-to-start F-150 detecting it — I replace or re-program it.
  • Flip key blade worn or buttons dead — On XL/XLT flip keys a worn blade or failed remote is common — I cut and program a replacement.
  • Lost all F-150 keys — For most years I generate and program a new key from scratch, on-site — no tow to the dealer. On a push-to-start F-150, send me the year and VIN first and I tell you before I drive out whether I can do it on-site.

Not sure which one it is? Send a photo of your Ford F-150 key on WhatsApp and I’ll tell you what you need. You pay only once it works.

Frequently asked questions

Can you make a Ford F-150 key if I have lost all of them?
For most years, yes. Even with no working key, I can generate and program a brand-new Ford F-150 key from scratch on-site, older ones included. On a push-to-start (Intelligent Access) F-150, send me the year and VIN first — I tell you before I drive out whether I can do it on-site.
Do you program Ford F-150 key fobs and smart keys?
Yes. I program Ford F-150 remotes, fobs, transponder (chip) keys and smart / push-to-start keys on-site, depending on your year and trim. Fobs and chip keys start from $160 and Intelligent Access smart keys from $170.
How much is a Ford F-150 key in Winnipeg?
A transponder or remote-head key for an older F-150, or a flip key for a 2015-and-newer XL or XLT, starts from $160; an Intelligent Access push-to-start key for a Lariat, King Ranch or Platinum from $170; all keys lost from $200, taxes included. A second key done at the same visit is half price, and you pay only once the key works.
Does my F-150 take a flip key or a smart key?
From the 2015 truck on, it depends on the trim more than the year: XL and XLT work trucks usually take a bladed flip key, while Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum use Intelligent Access push-to-start — a split that carried into the 2021-and-newer trucks. Every F-150 from 2000 on has a PATS chip in the key. Send the VIN and I confirm.
I lost every key for my Ford — why do you program two?
On many Fords the car will not finish programming with fewer than two keys once all originals are gone. It is how the security system works, not an add-on — so I quote all-keys-lost Ford jobs with two keys, and tell you the full price before I drive out.
