Ford keys I make on-site
Whatever your Ford needs, I come to you and handle it where you are:
- Lost all keys — a brand-new Ford key cut and programmed from scratch.
- Spare / duplicate keys — a backup before you're stuck.
- Key fob & remote programming — fobs and remotes set up to your car.
- Transponder (chip) keys — cut and programmed on-site.
I cover most Ford models, older ones included — F-150, Escape, Focus, Fusion, Edge, Explorer, Mustang and Ranger. Tell me your exact year and model and I'll confirm before I come out. One case to check first: a push-to-start (Intelligent Access) Ford with every key lost — send me the VIN and I tell you before I drive out whether I can do it on-site.
Ford drivers in Winnipeg call me most often to replace a lost key, cut a spare, or program a fob or transponder (chip) key for models like the F-150, Escape and Explorer — all done on-site for most Ford models, older ones included, usually in 20–60 minutes.
Because I am fully mobile, there is no counter to visit and nothing to tow. I work wherever the vehicle is sitting — your driveway, a workplace lot, a parkade or the roadside. The blade is cut, the chip or fob is programmed, and the key is tested at the vehicle before I consider the job done.
How it works
- Message, texttext or call. Send your Ford’s year and model — a photo of the key helps.
- I text you the all-in price before I drive out — that number does not change at your car — and we pick a time that suits you.
- I come to you and cut & program your Ford key on-site, usually in 20–60 minutes.
Most jobs are finished in a single visit. Before I leave — and before you pay — I test everything in front of you: the ignition or push-button start, the door locks, and every button on the remote.
What to have ready at your car
Before any work, I always check your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID. It's a standard part of how I operate — to confirm the vehicle is yours and keep everything above board.
If you still have an old, worn or broken Ford key, keep it handy for the visit — even a non-working original helps me confirm the blade profile, and for any later warranty assessment the original key must be presented.
From $200 for a Ford with no working key left · from $160 for a spare.
Ford fobs and transponder keys start from $160, a smart / push-to-start key from $170, and an all-keys-lost job from $200 — taxes in, confirmed before I come out, and you pay only once the key works. I accept Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Interac e-Transfer or cash.
1-year warranty on my work · No call-out fee — you pay only for the result.
Keys locked inside instead? Car lockout service is from $150, taxes included.
“I would highly recommend the service. Arrived at my house on time and completed the job in the time he stated it would be done. Very professional.”
— Greg Wiebe
What moves the price for a Ford key is mostly the key technology — a plain chipped blade is simpler than a proximity smart key — plus whether any working key remains. That is why a spare is from $160 while an all-keys-lost job is from $200, and why smart / push-to-start keys start from $170. Send the year, model and a photo of your key, and the quote you get is the number you pay, taxes included.
Where I come to you
All of Winnipeg and the surrounding region — including Selkirk, Lockport, St. Andrews, West St. Paul, Headingley, Stony Mountain, Stonewall, Oakbank and Niverville. Open 8 AM–9 PM, 7 days a week.
Downtown parkade, big-box parking lot, workplace yard or a rural driveway outside the Perimeter — the service is the same wherever your Ford is sitting. Inside Winnipeg the drive is free; outside Winnipeg a distance-based travel fee is part of the all-in price I give you before I set out.
Ford keys by year
- 2000 and newertransponder (chip) key — Ford’s PATS (SecuriLock) immobilizer became standard by the early 2000s. A plain cut key on its own will not start it.
- 2000s to early 2010sremote-head key or flip key — the cut blade and the remote buttons in one.
- Mid-2010s onward, higher trimssmart key — Ford Intelligent Access, proximity push-to-start. Many base and work trims kept a bladed flip key.
Spare or duplicate from $160 · chip, remote or flip from $160 · smart / push-to-start from $170 · all keys lost from $200. Varies by make, model & year, and you get the price before any work.
Two cars of the same year can take different keys — send a photo of your key or your VIN and I’ll confirm yours before I come out.
Ford key types by generation
The two Fords I get the most calls about in Winnipeg are the F-150 and the Escape, so here is how their keys break down by generation. The pattern repeats across most of the lineup: a chipped metal key in the early years, a remote-head or flip key through the middle years, and a push-to-start smart key on newer, higher trims.
| Years | Model | Key type | What it means for replacement |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2000–2014 (roughly) | F-150 | Transponder or remote-head key (PATS chip) | The blade is cut and the chip is programmed to the truck at your location — a plain metal copy on its own will not start it. |
| 2015 onward | F-150 — XL & XLT work trims | Bladed flip key | Cut and programmed on-site; the remote buttons are paired to the truck on the same visit. |
| 2015 onward | F-150 — Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum | Intelligent Access smart key (push-to-start) | A spare proximity fob is programmed at the truck; with every key lost, check with me first (send the VIN). The same trim split carried into the 2021-and-newer generation. |
| Early 2000s | Escape | Metal key with a hidden PATS chip | Looks like a plain key, but the chip must be programmed before the engine will start — a hardware-store copy cannot do the job. |
| Middle model years | Escape | Remote-head, then flip key | Blade and remote buttons in one unit — cutting and programming both happen at the vehicle. |
| Recent model years | Escape | Intelligent Access smart key (push-to-start) | A pocket fob that unlocks the doors and starts the SUV from a button — a spare is programmed on-site, no dealer trip and no tow; with every key lost, check with me first (send the VIN). |
Other Fords I cover — Focus, Fusion, Edge, Explorer, Mustang and Ranger — follow the same broad pattern: PATS transponder keys from 2000 on, remote-head and flip keys through the 2000s and early 2010s, and Intelligent Access smart keys on many newer, higher trims. Two vehicles from the same model year can still take different keys depending on trim, so the year alone is never the whole answer. I also make keys for the older Mercury models that share Ford’s key systems — a Milan is a Fusion and a Mariner is an Escape underneath.
Not sure which row is yours? Send a photo of your current key — or your VIN — and I will confirm exactly what your Ford takes, with the all-in price (taxes included) before I head out.
Popular Ford models I cover
The Ford F-150 is the vehicle I cut keys for most often — hardly a surprise in a province where it is the default work truck. F-150 owners usually call about a lost-all-keys replacement or a spare before winter, and I handle both at the truck, whether it is parked at a job site, outside a shop or in your driveway — only a push-to-start F-150 with every key lost is one I check from the VIN first, so you know before I drive out whether it is an on-site job. The dedicated F-150 page walks through its key history year by year.
The Ford Escape is the Ford SUV I see most. Whether you need a spare chip key for an early model or a spare Intelligent Access fob for a recent one, everything is done at the vehicle; if every key to a push-to-start Escape is gone, send me the VIN first and I tell you before I drive out whether I can do it on-site. Focus, Fusion, Edge, Explorer, Mustang and Ranger owners get the same on-site service — tell me the year and model and I will confirm what it needs before I come out.
Why Ford owners call me instead of the dealership
The dealer route usually means getting the vehicle to the dealership — which, with no working key, means paying for a tow — and then waiting while a key is ordered. As a mobile locksmith I skip all of that: I come to your Ford, cut the blade and program the chip or fob in a single visit, with no tow truck and no waiting days for a part to arrive.
- All-in price up front — the number I quote includes taxes, and it does not change at the vehicle.
- No Fix = No Pay — if I cannot hand you a working key, you owe nothing. There is no call-out fee either way.
- 1-year workmanship warranty — every key is covered against defects in the cutting, the chip or the programming.
- Open every day, 8 AM to 9 PM — evenings and weekends included, across Winnipeg and the surrounding towns.
- Ownership always verified — registration and matching photo ID are checked before any work.
Gaucho Keys is a registered Manitoba business, and when you call or message, you talk to the person who will actually make your key — not a call centre. Send a photo of your key and your VIN on WhatsApp and you get a straight answer about what your Ford needs and what it will cost.
A spare Ford key now beats a lost-key call later
Many of the stressful calls I get could have been avoided with a second key. A spare Ford key starts from $160, while a lost-all-keys job starts from $200 and leaves you without the vehicle until it is done. If your household is down to one key — especially on a push-to-start model — a spare made in your driveway takes one short visit, and a second key cut and programmed on the same visit is half price. Keep it in a drawer at home, not in the glovebox: a spare locked inside the vehicle is no spare at all.

Frequently asked questions
- Does my F-150 take a flip key or a smart key?
- It depends on the trim as much as the year. From 2015 the XL and XLT work trims use a bladed flip key, while the Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum use an Intelligent Access smart key with push-button start — the same split carried into the 2021-and-newer generation. Trucks from roughly 2000 to 2014 use a transponder or remote-head key with a PATS chip. Send a photo of your key or your VIN and I will confirm exactly what your truck takes.
- Do you program Ford key fobs and remotes?
- Yes. I program Ford key fobs, remotes and transponder (chip) keys on-site for most models, older ones included.
- My early Escape key looks like a plain key. Does it have a chip?
- Almost certainly. Ford's PATS (SecuriLock) immobilizer became standard by the early 2000s, and the early Escape uses a metal key with a hidden PATS chip. It looks like a plain key, but the chip must be programmed before the engine will start, so a hardware-store copy cannot do the job — I cut the blade and program the chip at the vehicle.
- How do I get a copy of my Ford key?
- Message me the year and model (a photo of the key helps). I cut and program the copy at your car — from $160 all-in inside Winnipeg; smart keys are from $170.
- How much is a Ford car key in Winnipeg?
- A spare PATS chip, remote-head or flip key — an F-150 from 2000 to 2014, a 2015-and-newer XL or XLT, or an early Escape — starts from $160. An Intelligent Access smart key for a Lariat, King Ranch or Platinum F-150 or a push-to-start Escape starts from $170. An all-keys-lost job starts from $200. Many Fords need two keys to finish programming, so I quote those jobs with two keys; on a push-to-start Ford with every key lost, send me the year and VIN first. All-in with taxes, given before I drive out, and you pay only once the key works.
- What is Ford MyKey, and does it affect a replacement key?
- MyKey is a built-in Ford feature that lets one key act as an administrator (admin) key and set limits for the other keys — things like speed warnings and a capped stereo volume, often used for teen drivers. Those settings live in the vehicle and are changed from its own menu using an admin key, so they are separate from the key cutting and programming I do. If MyKey limits are getting in your way, or your only remaining key is a restricted one, read my Ford MyKey guide or mention it when you call and I will walk you through it.
- Can you program a used Ford key fob I bought online or from a wrecker?
- Sometimes, but honestly — not always. Some second-hand remotes and transponder keys can be reprogrammed to another vehicle, while others lock to the first vehicle they were paired with and cannot be reused, and a listing photo rarely tells you which is which. Before you spend money on a used fob, send me a photo of it and your VIN and I will tell you whether it is worth trying. In many cases a new key I supply is no more expensive and is covered by my 1-year workmanship warranty.
- I lost every key for my Ford — why do you program two?
- On many Fords the car will not finish programming with fewer than two keys once all originals are gone. It is how the security system works, not an add-on — so I quote all-keys-lost Ford jobs with two keys, and tell you the full price before I drive out.
