Mercury Car Keys in Winnipeg

Every Mercury is a Ford underneath — a Milan is a Fusion, a Mariner an Escape — so its keys use Ford’s immobilizer, which I program every week, on-site in Winnipeg.

Open 8 AM–9 PM, 7 days.
Send your year, make and model — and whether a key still works — and you get the price.
Text, WhatsApp or Messenger any time — +1 (204) 406-1801. I reply from 8 AM. Send your year, make and model.

Mercury was the last of the retired North American badges to go, with the final Grand Marquis built in January 2011. That makes it younger than Pontiac, Saturn and Hummer — and it shows: Grand Marquis sedans, Mariner crossovers and Milan sedans are still very much in use around Winnipeg.

Every Mercury is a Ford underneath, which is exactly why the keys are easy. A Milan is a Fusion, a Mariner is an Escape, a Mountaineer is an Explorer, and a Grand Marquis is a Crown Victoria in a nicer suit. Ford’s immobilizer system runs across all of them, and it is one I program every week.

So a lost Mercury key is not the orphan problem it sounds like. I come to the car with the right blanks and the programmer, cut and code the key at the vehicle, and you pay only once it starts the engine.

Mercury keys I make on-site

Whatever your Mercury needs, I come to you and handle it where you are:

  • Lost all keys — a brand-new Mercury key coded from scratch, with nothing to copy.
  • Spare / duplicate keys — made while a working key still exists.
  • Remote-head keys and fobs — blade and buttons in one unit, cut and programmed together.
  • Transponder (chip) keys — coded to the vehicle’s immobilizer on-site.

I cover the Mercurys still on the road here — Grand Marquis, Mountaineer, Mariner, Milan, Sable, Montego, Villager, Cougar and Marauder. Tell me the exact year and model and I’ll confirm the right key before I come out.

Mercury owners in Winnipeg call me most often about a Grand Marquis down to one key, a Mariner that needs a spare, or a Milan remote-head key that has stopped starting the car — all done on-site in a single visit.

How it works

  • Message, texttext or call. Give me your Mercury’s year, model and VIN.
  • I text you the all-in price before I drive out — that number does not change at your car — and we pick a time that suits you.
  • I come to you and cut & program your Mercury key on-site, in a single visit.

Common Mercury key jobs I handle in Winnipeg

Most Mercury calls come down to a few familiar situations, and I cover them on-site:

  • Grand Marquis with one key left. The most common Mercury call here. These cars are kept a long time, and the second key usually vanished years ago.
  • Lost every key. I work from the vehicle rather than a copy, cut a fresh blade and code a new key to the immobilizer on-site.
  • Key turns but the engine cuts out. Ford’s system has to recognize the chip before it lets the engine run; a key that turns without starting is usually a coding problem, not a mechanical one.
  • Mariner or Milan remote-head key. Blade and buttons in one housing — cut, chipped and paired in the same stop.
  • Second key for another driver. Programmed alongside the existing one.

Which Mercury key you have

  • Late 1990s onwarda transponder (chip) key tied to Ford’s immobilizer — the chip has to be recognized before the engine will run, which is why a hardware-store copy turns the lock but will not start the car.
  • Through the 2000smany models use a remote-head key, with the lock and unlock buttons built into the head of the key itself.
  • Higher trims and later yearssome carry a separate keyless-entry fob alongside the key, programmed on its own.

Trim and year both matter, so treat this as a guide rather than a promise. Send me the year, model and VIN — or a photo of the key you still have — and I’ll confirm exactly what yours needs before I set off.

What to have ready at your car

Before any work, I always check your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID. It’s a standard part of how I work — to confirm the vehicle is yours and keep everything above board.

Still have a working key? A spare starts from $160. No working key left? An all-keys-lost job starts from $200.

You always get the exact number up front, and pay only once the key works. I accept Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Interac e-Transfer or cash.

1-year warranty on my work · No call-out fee — you pay only for the result.

The Mercurys I see most in Winnipeg

The Grand Marquis leads by a distance — a body-on-frame sedan that shrugs off winters and gets handed down through families. The Mariner and Milan come next as the newest Mercurys built, and the Mountaineer still appears as the better-trimmed Explorer. Sable and Montego turn up occasionally.

Where I come to you

All of Winnipeg and the surrounding region — including Selkirk, Lockport, St. Andrews, West St. Paul, Headingley, Stony Mountain, Stonewall, Oakbank and Niverville. Outside Winnipeg a travel fee is worked into the all-in price — you hear the final number before I set off. Open 8 AM–9 PM, 7 days a week. I come to wherever the car happens to be — a driveway, an office parkade, a grocery-store lot — and the whole job is done at the vehicle, so you never need to arrange a ride, a tow or a second trip.

Mercury keys: dealer vs. mobile locksmith

There has been no Mercury dealer since 2011. A Ford dealer can help through the shared parts bin, but with no working key that means paying for a tow and then waiting while the car sits in a queue behind newer vehicles.

Because a Mercury is a Ford underneath, I already carry what it takes. I come to the car, the price is agreed before I set off with taxes included, and you pay only once the key starts the engine.

Frequently asked questions

Can you still make a Mercury key?
Yes. Every Mercury is a Ford underneath — a Milan is a Fusion, a Mariner is an Escape, a Grand Marquis is a Crown Victoria — so the blanks and the programming are the same ones I use on Fords every week.
My key turns but the car will not start. Is that the key?
Very often, yes. Ford’s immobilizer has to recognize the chip in the key before it will let the engine run, so a key that was cut without being coded will turn the lock and go no further. Coding it to the vehicle is part of what I do on-site.
How much is a Mercury key in Winnipeg?
A spare transponder (chip) key for a Grand Marquis, or a remote-head key for a Mariner or Milan, starts from $160, and so does a separate keyless-entry fob. With no working key left, an all-keys-lost job starts from $200. You get the exact number before any work begins and pay only once the key works.
Which Mercury models do you cover?
Grand Marquis, Mountaineer, Mariner, Milan, Sable, Montego, Villager, Cougar and Marauder. Send me your year and model to confirm.
Is a Mercury key more expensive because the brand is gone?
No. It shares parts with the equivalent Ford, so it is priced the same as any other key of that type. You hear the all-in number before I drive out.
I lost both keys to my Grand Marquis. Can you help without a tow?
Yes. I make a key from scratch at the vehicle, so there is nothing to tow. All-keys-lost starts from $200, all-in with taxes, and you pay only once the engine starts.

What is included when I make your Mercury key

My price is all-in with taxes included, so the figure I give you is the figure you pay. It covers the blank, cutting the blade, programming whatever the vehicle needs, testing it in front of you and the trip out to the car. There is no call-out fee and nothing is added afterwards.

I accept Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Interac e-Transfer or cash, and payment is due only once the key is finished and working. If I cannot hand you a working key, you owe nothing.

By key type

I also cover specific key types: transponder / chip keys, smart / push-to-start keys, and all keys lost.

Other makes I cover

I cut and program keys, fobs and transponder keys for these makes — older mechanical and resistor keys included: Ford · Lincoln · Chevrolet · GMC · Buick · Cadillac · Chrysler · Dodge · Jeep · Ram · Toyota · Lexus · Honda · Acura · Nissan · Infiniti · Mazda · Mitsubishi · Subaru · Suzuki · Hyundai · Kia · Genesis · Land Rover · Jaguar. I work on North American, Japanese and Korean vehicles, plus Jaguar and Land Rover — not German makes (VW, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Mini, Porsche) or Volvo. See every make and model I cover.
