Honda keys I make on-site
Whatever your Honda needs, I come to you and handle it where you are:
- Lost all keys — a brand-new Honda key cut and programmed from scratch.
- Spare / duplicate keys — a backup before you're stuck.
- Key fob & remote programming — fobs and remotes set up to your car.
- Transponder (chip) keys — cut and programmed on-site.
I cover most Honda models, older ones included — Civic, Accord, CR-V, HR-V, Pilot, Odyssey, Ridgeline and more. Tell me your exact year and model and I'll confirm before I come out.
Honda drivers in Winnipeg call me most often to replace a lost key, cut a spare, or program a fob or transponder (chip) key for models like the Civic, CR-V and Accord — all done on-site for most Honda models, older ones included, usually in 20–60 minutes.
Most Hondas from around 2000 onward carry an immobilizer, which is why a key that is merely cut at a hardware store will turn the door lock but not start the engine: the chip inside has to be introduced to the car electronically before it counts as a real key. That programming step is the heart of what I do. I carry the equipment to cut the blade, code the transponder and pair remotes and smart fobs right at your vehicle, so a Honda key job that once meant a dealership appointment now happens in a parking stall, a driveway or the office parkade.

How it works
What to have ready at your car
Before any work, I always check your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID. It's a standard part of how I work — to confirm the vehicle is yours and keep everything above board.
Still have a working Honda key? A spare starts from $160. No working key left? An all-keys-lost job starts from $200.
Honda fobs and transponder keys start from $160 — you always get the exact number up front, and pay only once the key works. I accept Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Interac e-Transfer or cash.
1-year warranty on my work · No call-out fee — you pay only for the result.
“I lost one of my car keys and only had one left, so I was really stressed. Andrew handled everything perfectly - he cut and programmed a new key for my Honda Civic in just about 10-15 minutes.”

Where I come to you
All of Winnipeg and the surrounding region — including Selkirk, Lockport, St. Andrews, West St. Paul, Headingley, Stony Mountain, Stonewall, Oakbank and Niverville. Outside Winnipeg a travel fee is worked into the all-in price — you hear the final number before I set off. Open 8 AM–9 PM, 7 days a week. I come to wherever the car happens to be — a driveway, an office parkade, a grocery-store lot — and the whole job is done at the vehicle, so you never need to arrange a ride, a tow or a second trip.

Honda key types by generation
Honda changed its keys step by step rather than all at once, so the year and generation of your car usually tell me what you are holding before I even see it. Below is how that plays out across the Civic, Accord and CR-V — the three Hondas I am asked about most in Winnipeg.
Honda key types by model year — based on the Civic, Accord and CR-V generations I service most often.
| Years | Model | Key type | What it means for replacement |
|---|---|---|---|
| ~2001–2011 | Civic (7th–8th gen) | Transponder (chip) key | The blade is cut and the chip is coded to the immobilizer before the engine will start — both done on-site. |
| ~2012–2015 | Civic (9th gen) | Remote-head key | The chip and the lock/unlock buttons share one housing; 2014–2015 EX and higher trims can have Smart Entry push-button start instead. I cut and program the whole thing in one visit. |
| 2016 and newer | Civic (10th gen on) | Smart Entry proximity key on higher trims | A push-to-start fob programmed to the car, from $170; base trims may still take a bladed key. |
| Mid-2000s | Accord | Transponder key + separate remote | Two pieces: the chip key starts the engine, while the separate remote only locks and unlocks — without the programmed chip key the car will not drive. Each piece is set up on its own. |
| Late 2000s–early 2010s | Accord, CR-V | Remote-head key | Blade and remote buttons in one housing — cut, chipped and paired in a single stop. |
| 2013 generation onward | Accord | Smart Entry push-to-start, common across the range | A proximity fob programmed on-site; some base Accords still use a bladed transponder key. |
| ~2002 and newer | CR-V | Transponder (chip) key, often with separate remote | The chip is programmed to the car and the remote is paired on its own. |
| ~2015–2017 onward | CR-V (higher trims) | Honda Smart Entry push-to-start | A proximity smart key programmed at your location, from $170. |
Other Hondas — HR-V, Pilot, Odyssey, Ridgeline and the rest — follow the same broad pattern: chip keys through the 2000s, remote-head and flip keys through the 2010s, and Smart Entry on newer years and higher trims. Two Hondas of the same year can still take different keys depending on trim, so treat the table as a guide, not a promise. Send me your year and VIN, or a photo of the key you have left, and I will confirm exactly what your Honda needs before I head out.
Lost every Honda key? What an on-site visit looks like
An all-keys-lost job sounds dramatic, but for me it is routine work with a clear sequence. You tell me the year, model and location, and I give you the price before anything else happens — all-keys-lost service on a Honda starts from $200, and the number you hear is all-in, taxes included. The registration and photo-ID check comes first.
Then the actual work: I sort out the correct blade and cut it, program the chip or fob to your Honda’s immobilizer, and test everything — doors, ignition or push-to-start — before I call it done. Bring nothing but your ID and registration; the blanks, the cutting equipment and the programmer all arrive with me. You never tow the car anywhere and never hand anything in at a counter — the whole job happens where the Honda is parked. And because I work on a No Fix = No Pay basis, if I cannot get your Honda a working key, you owe nothing. See the dedicated all keys lost page for the full picture.
Dealership vs mobile locksmith for a Honda key
The dealership route for a Honda with no working key left usually means getting the car to the lot without a key — a tow you pay for — and then waiting while the replacement is ordered and the car sits in their queue. Cheaper than the dealership, with no towing and no 3–5 day wait, is exactly the gap a mobile locksmith fills: I come to the car, make and program the key at the curb, and hand it to you the same visit.
You also know the cost before I start: the price is given up front and it covers the key, the cutting, the programming and the trip — taxes included, nothing added afterwards. A key lost on a Sunday evening does not have to wait for Monday business hours.
A spare Honda key is the cheap way out
Most of the all-keys-lost calls I take started out as a one-key household. A spare Honda key costs from $160; losing your only key later costs from $200, plus the scramble of being stranded wherever the Honda happens to be parked. If I am already out making you a key, a second one cut on the same visit is half price — the cheapest a Honda key will ever be for you.
Winnipeg adds its own reason: winter. Hunting through a snowbank for dropped keys in the middle of a Manitoba January is nobody’s idea of a good evening, and a spare in a drawer at home turns that disaster into a mild annoyance. If your Honda is down to one key, this is the moment to fix it — not after.
Confirm the exact price with a photo or VIN
The easiest way to get an exact number is to send a photo of your remaining key — or your VIN — on WhatsApp. I’ll identify the key type, confirm what your year and trim take, and give you a firm price before I drive out.

Frequently asked questions
- Does my Civic have a smart key or a regular key?
- It depends on the generation and trim. Civics from about 2001 to 2011 use a transponder (chip) key, the 2012–2015 cars a one-piece remote-head key (Smart Entry push-button start on 2014–2015 EX and higher), and from 2016 higher trims use a Smart Entry proximity key with push-button start, while base trims may still take a bladed key. Send me your year and VIN, or a photo of the key you have left, and I will confirm exactly what your Honda needs.
- Do you program Honda key fobs and remotes?
- Yes. I program Honda key fobs, remotes and transponder (chip) keys on-site for most models, older ones included.
- My older Accord or CR-V has a key and a separate remote. Do both need programming?
- Yes, each on its own. On mid-2000s Accords, and on many CR-Vs from about 2002, the chip key starts the engine while the separate remote only locks and unlocks. Without the programmed chip key the car will not drive, so I code the key to the immobilizer and pair the remote separately.
- How do I get a copy of my Honda key?
- Message me the year and model (a photo of the key helps). I cut and program the copy at your car — from $160 all-in inside Winnipeg; smart keys are from $170.
- How much is a Honda car key in Winnipeg?
- A spare chip key for a roughly 2001–2011 Civic or an older CR-V, or a remote-head key for a roughly 2012–2015 Civic or an Accord or CR-V from the late 2000s, starts from $160. A Smart Entry push-to-start key — some 2014–2015 Civic EX and higher trims, higher-trim Civics from 2016, many Accords from the 2013 generation, higher-trim CR-Vs from the mid-2010s — starts from $170. With no working key left, an all-keys-lost job starts from $200. All-in with taxes, given before I come out, and you pay only once the key works.
- Do I have to tow my Honda to the dealership if I have no working key?
- No. I am a mobile locksmith, so I come to your Honda anywhere in Winnipeg or the surrounding area and generate a brand-new key on-site, even with every key lost. All-keys-lost service starts from $200 all-in, with no call-out fee, no towing and nothing to pay unless the key works.
- Can you reuse a used or second-hand Honda key fob?
- Sometimes, but not always. Many fobs lock to the first vehicle they are programmed to and cannot be paired to another car afterwards, so a used fob bought online can turn out to be a dead end. Send me a photo of the fob and your VIN before you spend money on one and I will tell you honestly whether it has a chance of working on your Honda.
