Honda Civic keys I make on-site
The Honda Civic is one of the most common cars on Winnipeg roads, so I make Civic keys often. Civics from 2001 on use a chip (transponder) key, and many newer Civics have a remote fob or push-to-start smart key on higher trims — I cut and program all of them on-site, no dealership trip and no towing. A second key done at the same visit is half price.
- Lost all keys — a brand-new Honda Civic key cut and programmed from scratch.
- Spare / duplicate keys — a backup before you are stuck.
- Key fob & remote programming — fobs and remotes set up to your Honda Civic.
- Chip & push-to-start keys — cut and programmed on the spot, depending on your year and trim.

“I lost one of my car keys and only had one left, so I was really stressed. Andrew handled everything perfectly - he cut and programmed a new key for my Honda Civic in just about 10-15 minutes.”

Honda Civic keys by year
On the Civic the key follows the generation. Seventh- and eighth-generation cars from roughly 2001–2011 run a transponder (chip) key that the immobilizer has to recognize, ninth-generation Civics from about 2012–2015 use a one-piece remote-head key (the lock buttons sit in the key head and the blade does not fold), although 2014–2015 EX and higher trims already had Honda Smart Entry with push-to-start, and tenth-generation Civics from 2016 and newer offer Smart Entry with a proximity fob on higher trims. Because two Civics from the same year can take different keys depending on trim, I confirm the exact key your Civic needs from your year and VIN, then cut and program it on-site.
Honda Civic key or fob not working? Common problems I fix
Most Civic key trouble falls into a few patterns, and which one you have depends on whether your Civic runs a transponder key, a remote-head key or Honda Smart Entry. Here is what I sort out on-site.
- Engine won’t start, immobilizer light on — The key turns but the Honda immobilizer isn’t reading the chip, so the engine won’t fire. I program a correctly-coded chip key so the car recognizes it.
- Smart Entry fob won’t start the car — On push-to-start Civics (2014–2015 EX and up, and Smart Entry trims from 2016) a weak fob battery or a fob that has lost its pairing stops the car detecting it. I replace the battery or re-program the proximity fob.
- Worn key that no longer turns — An older bladed Civic key that has worn round won’t turn cleanly in the door or ignition — I cut a fresh, precise key to your locks.
- Lost every Civic key — No working key at all? I generate and program a brand-new Civic key from scratch on-site — no tow to the dealer.
Not sure which one it is? Send a photo of your Honda Civic key on WhatsApp and I’ll tell you what you need. You pay only once it works.
Frequently asked questions
- Can you make a Honda Civic key if I have lost all of them?
- Yes. Even with no working key, I can generate and program a brand-new Honda Civic key from scratch on-site for most years from 2001 on, when the immobilizer arrived. Tell me the exact year and I will confirm.
- Do you program Honda Civic key fobs and smart keys?
- Yes. I program Honda Civic remotes, fobs, transponder (chip) keys and smart / push-to-start keys on-site, depending on your year and trim. Fobs and chip keys start from $160 and Smart Entry keys from $170.
- How much is a Honda Civic key in Winnipeg?
- A chip key for a Civic from roughly 2001–2011 or a remote-head key from about 2012–2015 starts from $160, a Honda Smart Entry push-to-start key (2014–2015 EX and up, and Smart Entry trims from 2016) from $170, and all keys lost from $200, taxes included. A second key done at the same visit is half price, and you pay only once the key works.
- Is my 2014 or 2015 Civic push-to-start?
- On EX and higher trims, yes — 2014–2015 EX-and-up Civics already had Honda Smart Entry with push-to-start, while the lower trims of those years use a one-piece remote-head key. From 2016, higher trims offer Smart Entry with a proximity fob. A photo of your key settles it.
- Which Honda Civic years do you cover?
- Most Honda Civic vehicles from 2001 on, when the immobilizer arrived; for older Civics I cut a plain metal key. Send me your exact year and I will confirm what your Honda Civic needs.
