Accords from the mid-2000s use a Honda transponder (chip) key that the car's immobilizer has to recognize before it will start, often paired with a separate keyless-entry remote. Through the late 2000s and early 2010s many Accords moved to a remote-head key that combines the cut blade and the remote buttons in one unit, while higher trims began offering Honda Smart Entry with push-button start. From the 2013 generation onward, Smart Entry proximity smart keys with push-to-start became common across the range, though some base Accords still use a bladed transponder key.
