Ram Car Keys in Winnipeg

A Ram is a working truck, so I come to it anywhere in Winnipeg — driveway, shop or job site — and make the key, fobik or proximity fob for your 1500, 2500 or 3500.

Open 8 AM–9 PM, 7 days.
Send your year, make and model — and whether a key still works — and you get the price.

A Ram is a working truck, and a lost or broken key usually means a stalled day — a job site you can’t get to, a trailer you can’t move, or a van full of tools you can’t lock up. Gaucho Keys is a mobile auto locksmith in Winnipeg, and I come to the truck rather than making you tow it: driveway, shop, job site or parking lot, I cut and program Ram keys where the truck sits. From a half-ton 1500 that doubles as the family vehicle to a 3500 dually or a ProMaster cargo van, I can cut a spare, replace a broken fob, or build a key from scratch when there is nothing left to copy.

Like every Chrysler-group vehicle, a Ram runs on the Sentry Key immobilizer, so the truck checks for a valid programmed chip before it will start — an uncut or unprogrammed key will never crank the engine even if it fits the door. Making a Ram key is therefore two tasks at once: cutting the blade or emergency insert to your locks, and pairing the transponder, FOBIK or proximity fob to your truck’s security module. I do both on-site, confirm the exact key your VIN calls for first, and quote the all-in price before I roll out.

Which Rams I help with most in Winnipeg

The Ram 1500 is by far the truck I’m called out for most here, and its keys have changed more than any other Ram as the truck moved from a turn-key FOBIK to push-button start. I also regularly cut and program keys for the heavy-duty 2500 and 3500 that local owners run for towing, plowing and the trades, and for the ProMaster and ProMaster City vans used by Winnipeg couriers, contractors and small businesses. Whether your Ram is a daily driver or one truck in a fleet, the work is the same for me: read what key it needs, bring it, and program it in your driveway or on the job.

Ram keys I make on-site

Whatever your Ram needs, I come to you and handle it where you are:

  • Lost all keys — a brand-new Ram key cut and programmed from scratch.
  • Spare / duplicate keys — a backup before you're stuck.
  • Key fob & remote programming — fobs and remotes set up to your car.
  • Transponder (chip) keys — cut and programmed on-site.

I cover most Ram models, older ones included — 1500, 2500, 3500 and ProMaster. Tell me your exact year and model and I'll confirm before I come out.

Ram drivers in Winnipeg call me most often to replace a lost key, cut a spare, or program a fob or transponder (chip) key for models like the 1500, 2500 and ProMaster — all done on-site for most Ram models, older ones included.

How it works

  • Message, texttext or call. Send your Ram’s year and model — a photo of the key helps.
  • I text you the all-in price before I drive out — that number does not change at your car — and we pick a time that suits you.
  • I come to you and cut & program your Ram key on-site.

What to have ready at your car

Before any work, I always check your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID. It's a standard part of how I operate — to confirm the vehicle is yours and keep everything above board.

From $200 for a Ram with no working key left · from $160 for a spare.

Ram fobs and transponder keys start from $160, a smart / push-to-start key from $170, and an all-keys-lost job from $200 — taxes in, confirmed before I come out, and you pay only once the key works. I accept Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Interac e-Transfer or cash.

1-year warranty on my work · No call-out fee — you pay only for the result.

Ram keys by year

Ram trucks and vans use Chrysler’s Sentry Key Immobilizer System (SKIS/SKIM, later the SKREEM or Wireless Control Module), so almost every Ram from 2000 and newer needs a transponder (chip) key rather than a plain cut key to start. Through the mid-2000s and into the 2010s many Rams used a one-piece fobik key that inserts into a Wireless Ignition Node, while newer trucks moved to proximity push-to-start smart keys on higher trims. Whether your 1500, 2500, 3500 or ProMaster takes a chip key, a fobik or a smart key depends on the year and trim — I confirm from your year and VIN, then cut and program it on-site.

2018 and newer Ram, Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler vehicles have a security gateway module that blocks key programming through the normal diagnostic port — which is why some locksmiths send these to the dealer. I carry the 12+8 bypass cable for it, so a 2018–2024 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 or ProMaster is an ordinary on-site job. The 2025 and newer Ram is the exception: its new gateway can’t be reached with a cable and I can’t program it yet, so for those trucks and vans the dealer is the right call.

The one thing to watch on a Ram is that 2019 model year. The redesigned DT-body 1500 came with push-button start as standard, but Ram kept selling the previous truck alongside it as the “1500 Classic”, which still uses the older FOBIK or a keyed ignition. So two 2019 Rams parked side by side can take completely different keys. On the heavy-duty 2500 and 3500 the FOBIK stuck around longer than on the light-duty truck. When you send me your VIN I read exactly which system your Ram left the line with, so the correct fob comes with me on the first visit.

Lost every Ram key? No tow needed

When there is no working key left there is nothing to clone, so I build one: cut a fresh blade or emergency insert to your locks and program it to the truck’s immobilizer using its security data — all done where the Ram is parked, with no tow to the dealership. On push-button trucks like the DT 1500 that means pairing a new proximity fob so the truck starts when the fob is inside the cab. I’ll ask for your registration and a matching photo ID first so I can be sure the truck is yours — it’s standard on every all-keys-lost job.

Ram fobs, remotes and keyless entry

A lot of Ram calls aren’t full key replacements at all. It might be a fob with dead buttons, a cracked case, or an owner who simply wants a second remote for a spouse or another driver. I program Ram key fobs and remotes, including remote-start models, and can add a spare FOBIK or proximity fob so you’re never down to a single key. If your remote-start or lock buttons have quit, mention it when you call — sometimes it’s the fob’s battery or worn buttons rather than the truck.

What a Ram key costs and what changes it

What a Ram key costs comes down to the key type, whether I’m copying an existing key or starting from nothing, and how many keys you need. A spare transponder or FOBIK for an older 1500 sits at the lower end; a proximity smart fob for a new DT 1500 or a loaded 2500 costs more because the fob itself is a pricier part. As a guide, that means from $160 for a spare transponder key or fob, from $170 for a smart / push-to-start fob, and from $200 when every key is gone — taxes in. Either way you get the all-in figure — parts, cutting, programming and travel — before I book, and you pay only once the key actually starts the truck. I take Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Interac e-Transfer or cash.

How the Ram FOBIK and Wireless Ignition Node work

Many Rams built through the 2010s don’t have a traditional key barrel at all. Instead the FOBIK slots into a Wireless Ignition Node — a module tucked behind the dash that reads the fob’s transponder, checks it against the Sentry Key system, and only then lets the truck start. It’s tidy, but it also means a Ram key is really a small computer, not a lump of cut metal: pairing a new one takes the truck’s security PIN and the right programming tool, both of which I bring to you. On the newer DT trucks the node gives way to a proximity antenna and a push-button, but the principle doesn’t change — the fob and the truck have to recognize each other electronically before anything turns over. If you still have one working fob I can add a spare to it; if all of them are gone I read the truck’s data and build a fresh key from nothing.

Common Ram key situations I handle

  • Down to one fob. A work truck can’t afford downtime, so I cut and program a spare before a lost key ever parks the Ram.
  • Worn or cracked FOBIK. Years of sliding in and out of the ignition node wear the emergency blade and split the case — a fresh fob sorts it out.
  • Remote start acting up. If the truck starts with the key in the dash but not from the remote, it’s often the fob rather than the truck — tell me and I’ll check before replacing anything.
  • Fleet and shared trucks. Need matching keys for a couple of drivers on the same 1500 or ProMaster? I can program several to one truck.
  • Bought used with no spare. Second-hand Rams often come with just one key; I build a backup at your driveway or the yard.

Frequently asked questions

How does the FOBIK in my Ram start the truck?
It slots into a Wireless Ignition Node, a module tucked behind the dash that reads the fob's transponder and checks it against the Sentry Key system before it lets the truck start. That makes a Ram key a small computer rather than a lump of cut metal: pairing a new one takes the truck's security PIN and the right programming tool, both of which I bring to you.
My Ram starts with the key in the dash but not from the remote. Is it the truck?
Often it is the fob rather than the truck. Tell me when you call and I'll check before replacing anything — sometimes it's the fob's battery or worn buttons. I program Ram key fobs and remotes, including remote-start models.
Can you program several keys to one Ram for a fleet or shared truck?
Yes. If a couple of drivers share the same 1500 or ProMaster, I can program several matching keys to one truck so each driver carries their own. Second-hand Rams often come with just one key too, and I build a backup at your driveway or the yard.
How much is a Ram car key in Winnipeg?
A bladed transponder key for a 2002–2008 1500, or a FOBIK for a 2009–2018 1500, a 1500 Classic or a 2010–2018 2500 or 3500, starts from $160, and so does a ProMaster or ProMaster City flip key; a proximity smart key for a 2019–2024 DT 1500 starts from $170; and all keys lost starts from $200, taxes in. For a 2025 or newer Ram the dealer is the right call.
Is my Ram a FOBIK or a push-button smart key?
It depends on the year and body style. Many Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks from about 2009 through 2018 use a FOBIK, a one-piece fob you slide into the dash and turn, while the 2019-and-newer DT body 1500 comes with push-button start and a proximity smart key. The 2019 to 2023 Classic kept the older style. Send me your VIN and I'll confirm which your truck uses. 2025 and newer Ram trucks and vans have a new electronic gateway I can't program yet — for those the dealer is the right call.
Do you make keys for a Ram ProMaster or ProMaster City van?
Yes. The ProMaster and ProMaster City use a flip-style transponder key that I can cut and program on-site, including when every key is lost. Give me the year and I'll confirm the exact key and price before I come out.
