Chevrolet Silverado keys I make on-site
The Chevrolet Silverado is one of the most common work trucks on the road around Winnipeg and rural Manitoba, so it is a vehicle I make keys for often. I come to you — on a job site, a driveway, a parking lot or the side of a gravel road — and cut and program the key right there, with no towing.
Across its generations the Silverado has used a few different keys: older trucks run a plain or transponder (chip) key with a separate remote, 2019-and-newer trucks a flip key with the remote built in, and higher trims often a smart / proximity push-to-start key, depending on year and trim. I confirm exactly what your Silverado needs from the year and VIN, then quote before any work starts.

Lost all your Silverado keys, or just need a spare?
Even if every key is gone, I can generate and program a brand-new Chevrolet Silverado key from scratch on-site for most trucks, older ones included — no need to tow it to a dealer. If you still have one working key, getting a spare cut now is the cheap insurance, and the second key at the same visit is half price.
A backup matters even more on a work truck: if the only Silverado key gets lost on site, dropped in the snow, or worn out, a spare keeps you moving instead of parked. Before any work I check your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID — a standard step to confirm the truck is yours.
Where I work

Chevrolet Silverado keys by year
The Silverado’s key changed with the year: the 1999–2006 Silverado used a non-transponder key — GM did not add transponder chips to its trucks until 2007, when the Silverado switched to PK3 transponder (chip) keys. Trucks from 2007–2018 carry that transponder chip key with a separate remote fob, and from 2019 the new-generation Silverado moved to a flip key with the remote built in, while many trucks — especially higher trims — carry a proximity push-to-start smart key. I make keys for Silverados, older ones included, and I confirm exactly which type yours takes from the year and VIN before cutting and programming it on-site.
Chevy Silverado key or fob not working? Common fixes
From 2007 the Silverado uses GM’s PK3 transponder key; the newest trucks add a proximity push-to-start fob. Both have their own failure patterns.
- PK3 chip not recognized — The engine won’t start because the GM immobilizer can’t read the PK3 chip. I program a chip key coded to the truck.
- Proximity fob won’t start it — On 2019-and-newer push-button Silverados, a weak fob battery or lost sync stops detection — I replace or re-program it.
- Worn key blade — A worn blade binds in the ignition; I cut a fresh, precise key.
- Lost all Silverado keys — I generate and program a new key from scratch, on-site.

Frequently asked questions
- How much is a Chevrolet Silverado key in Winnipeg?
- A key for a 1999–2006 Silverado (no chip) or a 2007–2018 PK3 chip key starts from $160, a 2019-and-newer flip key also from $160, a push-to-start smart key from $170, and all keys lost from $200, taxes included. A second key at the same visit is half price, you get the exact all-in price before I set out, and you pay only once the key works — no call-out fee.
- Can you make a Chevrolet Silverado key if I have lost all of them?
- Yes. Even with no working key, I can generate and program a brand-new Chevrolet Silverado key from scratch on-site for most trucks, older ones included. Tell me the exact year and VIN and I confirm what your Silverado needs.
- Does my Silverado take a chip key, a flip key or a smart key?
- It follows the year. A 1999–2006 Silverado has a key with no chip; 2007–2018 trucks use a PK3 transponder (chip) key with a separate remote; from 2019 the Silverado moved to a flip key with the remote built in, and many trucks, especially higher trims, carry a push-to-start smart key. Your VIN settles it.
- Do you come to me in Winnipeg for my Silverado?
- Yes — I am a fully mobile auto locksmith and come to wherever your Silverado is parked: a job site, your driveway, a parking lot, anywhere in Winnipeg and the surrounding area. The drive is free inside Winnipeg; outside Winnipeg a distance-based travel fee is part of the all-in price I give you before I set out. There is no towing.
- What do I need to have ready, and how long does it take?
- Your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID — a standard step to confirm the truck is yours. A spare key or fob usually takes 20–50 minutes at the truck, and a smart key or an all-keys-lost job 30–60 minutes. You get a clear up-front price first.
