Mazda CX-5 keys we make on-site
We handle the three things CX-5 owners call us about: a spare before you need one, a replacement when the only key is gone, and a lockout. Andy carries the blanks, the cutting machine and the programming gear in the van, so the whole job happens where your SUV is already parked. Most are done in 30 to 60 minutes once we arrive.
On a CX-5 that almost always means a push-to-start smart key. Nothing sticks out of it, but there is an auxiliary key tucked inside the fob for the day the battery quits. A spare smart key starts at $170, all keys lost from $200, and a lockout from $150 — prices vary by make, model and year. A second key programmed in the same visit is half off, and fob or remote programming on its own is by quote.
- Lost all keys — a brand-new Mazda CX-5 key cut and programmed from scratch.
- Spare / duplicate keys — a backup before you are stuck.
- Key fob & remote programming — fobs and remotes set up to your Mazda CX-5.
- Chip & push-to-start keys — cut and programmed on the spot, depending on your year and trim.

Mazda CX-5 keys by year
2013 to 2016 — the first generation. Mazda listed push-button start as standard equipment when the CX-5 launched for 2013, so even these early SUVs carry a keyless transmitter rather than a key you turn in a barrel. The option on the list back then was Advanced Keyless Entry, the proximity version with request switches on the door handles that unlocks as you walk up. Both versions use the same style of fob with an auxiliary key inside.
2017 to 2025 — the second generation. The redesigned CX-5 kept push-button start right across the range, from the entry trim up, with Advanced Keyless Entry and its walk-up unlocking added further along. Fobs from these years are smart keys that have to be programmed to your specific vehicle, so no counter that only cuts blades can copy one.
2026 and newer — the third generation. The all-new CX-5 arrived for the 2026 model year on a completely new platform, and the key and entry setup varies by trim. Newer platforms can need different tooling, so send us the year, the trim and a photo of your fob and we will tell you honestly whether yours is one we can do.

Frequently asked questions
- Can you make a Mazda CX-5 key if I have lost all of them?
- Yes — all keys lost on a CX-5 starts at $200. We come to wherever the SUV is parked, cut a fresh auxiliary blade, program a new smart key to the vehicle, and clear the missing keys so they will no longer drive it. Have the vehicle registration and matching photo ID ready. The final price varies by make, model and year.
- Does my CX-5 need a push-to-start smart key?
- Almost certainly yes. Push-button start has been standard on the CX-5 since the 2013 launch, so a 2013 or newer CX-5 takes a push-to-start smart key rather than a plain metal or chip key. Whether yours also unlocks as you walk up depends on the trim — that part was the Advanced Keyless Entry option. If you are not sure what you have, send a photo of your fob — we go by what is in your hand, not by the brochure.
- How much is a spare CX-5 key in Winnipeg?
- A spare smart key for a CX-5 starts at $170, and a second key done in the same visit is 50% off. Programming a fob or remote on its own is by quote. Cost varies by make, model and year, so send us the year and a photo of the key for an exact number. There is no call-out fee either way.
- How long does the job take once you are there?
- Usually 30 to 60 minutes once we arrive. Cutting the blade and programming a CX-5 smart key both happen at your vehicle, so there is no tow and no dealership appointment to book. We work 8 AM to 9 PM, seven days a week, across Winnipeg and the nearby towns.
