Kia Sportage keys we make on-site

The Sportage is one of the most common compact SUVs on Winnipeg roads, so Sportage keys are a regular job for us. Whether you have lost every key, want a spare before winter, or need a fob or smart key programmed, we cut and program it where the car is parked — your driveway, a work parking lot, or wherever it ended up.

Which key you need comes down to year and trim, not just the badge. Older Sportages and base trims use a bladed flip key with the remote built into the folding blade, turned in a normal ignition, while higher trims and most newer years use a proximity smart key with push-to-start. Tell us your year and trim, or send a photo, and we confirm the right key and the price before any work starts.

What to bring

Before any work, we always check your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID — a standard part of how we operate, to confirm the vehicle is yours.

From $200 for a lost Kia Sportage key · from $160 for a spare. Fobs and chip/smart keys are by quote.

You always get the price up front and pay only once the key works. See our full pricing.

1-year warranty · No call-out fee — you pay only for the result.

Kia Sportage keys by year

The third-generation Sportage (SL) ran from roughly 2011 to 2016 here. Most of these use a three-button flip key with the remote built into the folding blade. A proximity smart key with push-to-start was also offered on higher trims through this generation, so a 2011-2016 Sportage can have either — the year on its own does not tell us which.

The fourth generation (QL), roughly 2017 through 2022, kept the same split. Trims with a turn-key ignition carry a flip key, and trims with push-to-start use a proximity smart key. The two are not interchangeable even on the same model year, so we confirm the exact part against your VIN rather than guessing from the year.

The fifth generation (NQ5) arrived for 2023, and the split still holds: the base LX uses a turn-key ignition with a flip key, while EX and higher trims come with a proximity smart key and push-button start. One Canada-specific point is worth knowing if you are shopping for a key online. Vehicles here have been required to have an immobilizer since 2007, so every Canadian Sportage key has a transponder chip in it. On an older Sportage — roughly 2011 through 2021 — the identical-looking US-market key often has no chip at all, which is why a cheap key from a US seller can unlock the doors but will not drive a Canadian car. Kia added immobilizers across its whole range from the 2022 model year, so on a 2023-and-newer Sportage both versions are chipped — but the key still has to be cut and programmed to your car, and that is the part we do.

Frequently asked questions

Can you make a Kia Sportage key if I have lost all of them?
Yes — lost-all-keys jobs start from $200. Even with no working key, we generate and program a brand-new Sportage key from scratch, on-site, for models from 2000 onward. Tell us the year and trim and we confirm what your Sportage needs before we start. Have your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID ready, as we check both before any work.
Does my Kia Sportage have a flip key or a smart key?
It depends on the trim more than the year. The 2011-2016 and 2017-2022 Sportage were both sold with a flip key on base trims and a proximity smart key with push-to-start on higher trims, and the 2023-and-newer Sportage keeps that split — the base LX uses a flip key, EX and up use a smart key. If your Sportage starts with a button rather than a turned key, it is a smart key. Send us a photo and we will confirm.
How much is a Kia Sportage key in Winnipeg?
A lost Sportage key (all keys lost) starts from $200 and a spare or duplicate from $160, with 50% off a second key made at the same visit. A flip or chip key starts from $160 and a smart / push-to-start key from $170; fobs and remotes are by quote, given up front. Pricing varies by make, model and year. There is no call-out fee, and you pay only once the key works.
Can I buy a Kia Sportage key online and have you program it?
Often yes, but check the year and which market it came from. Canada has required an immobilizer on new vehicles since 2007, so a Canadian Sportage needs a key with a transponder chip in it. On a roughly 2011-2021 Sportage, an identical-looking US-market flip key may have no chip at all, and a key like that will unlock the doors but will not drive the car. From the 2022 model year Kia chipped its keys in both markets, so the seller's market matters less on a newer Sportage — but either way the key still has to be cut and programmed to your car. Send us a photo of the key you are looking at before you buy and we will tell you whether it will work.
