West Kildonan is the old city on the west bank of the Red River, in the north of Winnipeg. The river is its eastern edge and McPhillips Street its western one; to the south it stops at Carruthers Avenue and McGregor Street, where the North End begins, and the northern line follows Templeton Avenue, Seaforth Avenue and the top of the Kildonan Park Golf Course. Main Street runs up the river side, with Leila and Jefferson among the avenues crossing it. Garden City, the western part between McPhillips and the CP rail line, has its own page.
It was a city of its own from 1961 until it joined Winnipeg in 1972, and most of its houses came after the Second World War.

The busy exception is Kildonan Park, 96 acres beside the river. It holds Rainbow Stage at 2021 Main Street — an outdoor theatre with 2,600 seats — the Witch's Hut and an Olympic-size pool, and in winter a skating pond and two toboggan slides. Parking in the park is free, but on a show night the big lot on the north side of the theatre is stacked, and the theatre itself warns you may not be able to drive out until the performance is over. A key locked inside or a fob that dies in that lot can wait while you get the price, and the car gets opened once the rows around it have cleared.
Smaller stops: the West Kildonan Library at 365 Jefferson Avenue, the West Kildonan Memorial Community Centre on Perth Avenue, and the schools of the Jefferson area — Victory School, Seven Oaks Middle School and École Belmont.

That takes in a driveway in the Jefferson area, the curb on Main Street, the street outside the library on Jefferson Avenue and the parking inside Kildonan Park. - Yes. Parking in Kildonan Park is free, and on a show night Rainbow Stage packs the big lot on the north side of the theatre in stacked rows, so a car may be boxed in until the performance ends. If the keys are locked inside or the fob has died, send the spot and the year, make and model; you get the lockout price, from $150, before anything else, and the door is opened without damage once there is room to work. In winter the same goes for a car left by the skating pond or the toboggan slides.
- What can you do on-site in West Kildonan?
