Mobile auto locksmith in Garden City

Carports and quiet side streets put a good share of Garden City jobs on a driveway or at the curb, the rest in lots such as the shopping centre at McPhillips and Leila. You get the key, fob or opened door on-site, priced first.

Garden City sits in north Winnipeg between Leila Avenue at the top and Carruthers Avenue at the bottom, with McPhillips Street down the west side and the CP Winnipeg Beach rail line closing it in past Sinclair Street on the east. Jefferson Avenue runs through the middle of it.

The whole area went up from 1955 as a single planned development, which is why the houses run to one mid-century ranch style with carports, and why so many of the side streets carry flower names — Buttercup Avenue, Daffodil Street, Tulip Road. The places people navigate by are the Garden City Shopping Centre at McPhillips and Leila, Garden City Collegiate on Jefferson Avenue, Forest Park School on Forest Park Drive, and the Seven Oaks Sportsplex on Kingsbury Avenue behind the mall.

A good share of the work here happens on a driveway or at the curb, because the houses were built with their own carports and the side streets are quiet enough to open a case of tools on. The rest is open surface lot.

The Garden City Shopping Centre lot at McPhillips and Leila holds around 2,700 cars and carries both the Winnipeg Transit terminal and a marked park-and-ride corner, so a fob left on the seat near the Canadian Tire or Winners doors can sit there through a full shift before anyone goes back for it. Add the arena and soccer complex lots on Kingsbury Avenue on a hockey night, the lot at Garden City Collegiate on Jefferson Avenue, and the paid hospital lots at Seven Oaks General on the far side of McPhillips at Leila, and that is most of where I end up.

What I do on-site

  • Lost all keys — a brand-new key cut and programmed from nothing, whether the car is sitting in the Garden City Shopping Centre lot at McPhillips and Leila, outside the Seven Oaks Sportsplex on Kingsbury Avenue, or on a driveway off Forest Park Drive. From $200.
  • Spare / duplicate keys — cut while you still have a working key, which is the sensible way round and the cheaper one. From $160, and a second key for the same car on the same visit is half price.
  • Car lockout — the door opened without damage. Plenty of these are the mall lot or the arena lot on Kingsbury Avenue: door shut, keys on the seat. From $150.
  • Key fob & remote programming — fobs and remotes paired to your car where it stands, on the driveway or in the Canadian Tire row at the mall. From $160.
  • Transponder (chip) keys — cut and coded to the immobilizer on the spot, for most makes and models, older cars included. From $160.

Frequently asked questions

Do you come to Garden City?
Yes. Gaucho Keys is a fully mobile auto locksmith, so the van comes to the car rather than the other way round — anywhere between Leila Avenue and Carruthers Avenue, from McPhillips Street across to the rail line past Sinclair Street. That takes in the Garden City Shopping Centre lot at McPhillips and Leila, the community centre and Sportsplex grounds on Kingsbury Avenue, the streets around Garden City Collegiate on Jefferson Avenue, and the driveways off Forest Park Drive, Buttercup Avenue and Daffodil Street in between. There is no need to tow the car to a shop.
When can you reach Garden City?
I serve Garden City 7 days a week, 8 AM to 9 PM. From the north side timing depends on traffic and your exact spot, so call +1 (204) 406-1801 and I'll tell you honestly when I can be there. Once you know the price, we agree a day and time that suit you, and I turn up then.
What can you do on-site in Garden City?
The whole job list, done at the car: lost keys replaced from scratch, spare and duplicate keys cut, locked cars opened without damage, and key fobs, remotes and transponder (chip) keys programmed for most makes and models, older cars included. It happens where the car already sits — a driveway off Forest Park Drive, the surface lot at McPhillips and Leila, or the arena lot on Kingsbury Avenue — with the same cutting and programming equipment a shop would use, carried in the van. Before any of it I check the vehicle registration and a matching photo ID.
How much does it cost in Garden City?
In the Garden City Shopping Centre lot or on a driveway with a carport, a lockout starts from $150, a spare, chip key or fob from $160, a smart / push-to-start key from $170 and all keys lost from $200, taxes included. Garden City is inside Winnipeg, so there is no travel charge on top of the price; some makes cost more, and the price list covers the rest.
