Mobile auto locksmith in Gimli

In summer the car may be in a cottage lane at Loni Beach or at the harbour end of Centre Street. A lost key, a dead fob or a lockout is handled where it is parked, the drive counted into one up-front price.

Gimli sits about 77 km north of the Winnipeg city limit by road, on the west shore of Lake Winnipeg. Highway 9 is the lakeshore road up from the city through Selkirk, Petersfield and Winnipeg Beach, and inside town it is Seventh Avenue, ending where PR 222 carries on north and PR 231 runs west to Highway 8, which is the other way people come up, off the North Perimeter.

Gimli is laid out on numbered avenues behind the harbour at the foot of Centre Street — the largest harbour on Lake Winnipeg, with berthing for up to 200 boats and commercial fishing docks. West of town, the old air base where the Gimli Glider landed in 1983 is now Gimli Industrial Park Airport and Gimli Motorsports Park.

Downtown is Centre Street and First Avenue, and on a hot summer weekend the nearer the water you want to be, the longer it takes to find a space: the harbour end of Centre Street, the beach side toward Barney Thomas Drive, and the curb outside Tergesen's on the First Avenue corner. For the summer season the RM changes the downtown pattern — Amisk one-way westbound between First and Fifth, with marked overflow parking — and on Icelandic Festival weekend at the start of August the festival's own advice is to leave the car well back of downtown and walk in.

The rest of the year it is driveways and lots: the older avenues behind the water, the newer streets in Aspen Park and Autumnwood, the cottage lanes at Loni Beach, the Co-op at 55 Centre Street, and the Rec Centre lot at 45 Centennial Road, which is also where the RM says towed cars are taken.

I cover Gimli, on the west shore of Lake Winnipeg. The travel fee is $2 per km from the Winnipeg city limit to Gimli, worked into the exact, all-in number you get before I set out — never a surprise when I pull up.

What I do on-site

  • On-site anywhere in Gimli — the harbour end of Centre Street, the beach side toward Barney Thomas Drive, a driveway in Aspen Park, a cottage lane at Loni Beach, or the Rec Centre lot at 45 Centennial Road. No towing to a shop.
  • Spare keys, lost keys, lockouts, fobs and chip keys — done where the car sits, and in summer that is as often a cottage lane or the harbour lot as a driveway. Most makes and models, older cars included.
  • Up-front price, no call-out fee — car lockout from $150, spare, chip key or fob from $160, smart / push-to-start from $170, all keys lost from $200, taxes included. Gimli is outside Winnipeg, so a travel fee is built into that number and you hear the total before I leave. You pay only once the key works or the car is open.
  • Half price on a second key — same car, cut at the same visit, with a 1-year warranty on the work. Worth doing while the car is sitting at home on one of the avenues behind downtown or up at Loni Beach, rather than the day the only key goes missing at the beach.
  • Open 8 AM to 9 PM, 7 days — holidays included, so a Saturday at the harbour in August and a weeknight at the Rec Centre on Centennial Road both work. Call, text or WhatsApp +1 (204) 406-1801.

Frequently asked questions

Do you come to Gimli?
Yes. I'm a fully mobile auto locksmith, so I come to you anywhere in Gimli, on-site — the harbour end of Centre Street, the beach side toward Barney Thomas Drive, a driveway in Aspen Park, a cottage lane at Loni Beach, or the Rec Centre lot at 45 Centennial Road. There is no need to tow your car anywhere. Gimli is outside Winnipeg, so a travel fee is included in the price, and you always hear the exact, all-in total before I set out. Tell me the year, make and model, and once you know the price we agree a day and time that suit you.
When can you reach Gimli?
I serve Gimli 7 days a week, 8 AM to 9 PM, holidays included. Gimli sits up Highway 9 on the west shore of Lake Winnipeg, so the timing depends on the drive and on what is already booked that day, and a travel fee based on the distance is already inside the one all-in price I give you before I set off. Call or message +1 (204) 406-1801 and I will tell you honestly when I can be there.
Do you cover the beach and harbour area?
Yes. The 600-metre beach between the harbour pier at the end of Centre Street and Barney Thomas Drive, the marina and its mural seawall, and the shops along First Avenue are all on-site work for me. Summer weekends and Icelandic Festival weekend are the busiest, parking is tight and people leave the car well back of downtown and walk in, so tell me the street or lot the car actually ended up in rather than just the beach, and send a photo of the key on WhatsApp if you can.
What can you do on-site in Gimli?
Spare keys, lost keys, lockouts, fobs and chip keys, all done where the car sits, and in summer that is as often a cottage lane at Loni Beach or the harbour lot as a driveway on the avenues behind downtown. Most makes and models, older cars included.
How much does it cost in Gimli?
Whether the car is at the harbour end of Centre Street or in a cottage lane at Loni Beach, a lockout starts from $150, a spare, chip key or fob from $160, a smart / push-to-start key from $170 and all keys lost from $200, taxes included. The travel fee is $2 per km from the Winnipeg city limit to Gimli; it is part of the all-in price I give you before I set out, and you pay only once the key works or the car is open. Some makes cost more, and the pricing page has the full list.
