Fort Garry is the big district in the southwest corner of Winnipeg, on the west bank of the Red River, south of Fort Rouge and east of Tuxedo, with Pembina Highway running through the middle of it as the commercial spine and Waverley Street running parallel to the west. Further south, off Pembina Highway, the University of Manitoba campus belongs to the wider Fort Garry area too, with Fort Richmond right beside it.
Where the car is sitting changes this job more than people expect. Along the strip it is usually a shopping lot, such as Pembina Village at Pembina Highway and Abinojii Mikanah, or a tenant stall behind one of the apartment blocks, and I work in the stall without moving the vehicle.
On the older streets off Oakenwald Avenue and Point Road it is a short driveway or a back lane, and Wildwood Park has no road in front of the houses at all: the homes face the green space and the cars sit in the ten rear laneways, so tell me the laneway as well as the house number. The other spot that comes up a lot is the Clarence Station park-and-ride off Clarence and Waller Avenues, 400 stalls, where a fob that has stopped working tends to show itself at the end of the day rather than the start.
