Nissan Kicks keys I make on-site
The Kicks arrived in Canada for the 2018 model year with push-button start on every trim, so a Kicks key is never just a blade you cut — it is a fob programmed to the car. What changes between trims is the fob: the base S has an integrated key with lock and unlock buttons, while the SV and SR have the Nissan Intelligent Key, which unlocks as you walk up and adds remote engine start.
Prices are all-in with taxes: a spare Kicks smart key from $170, programming a fob or remote on its own from $160, and a brand-new key when every key is gone from $200. A second key at the same visit is half price, there is no call-out fee, and you pay only once the key works.
- Spare smart key — a second fob programmed to your Kicks, like the 2021 in my video.
- Key fob programming — a replacement fob set up to your car.
- “No key detected” problems — I check the simple fix before I sell you a new key.
- Lost all keys — send me the VIN first, and I tell you before I drive out whether I can do it on-site.

Watch: a spare smart key for a 2021 Kicks
That 2021 Kicks is a first-generation car. A spare means one fob still worked, so I programmed a second one to it on the spot — the kind of job that takes one visit and no trip to the dealer.

Nissan Kicks keys by year
The Kicks has had two generations in Canada, and on both of them the trim decides which fob you carry. Here is how it lines up in Nissan Canada’s own equipment lists. Years and trims are a guide — your VIN is the final word.
| Years & trim | Usual key | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| 2018–2024, S (first generation) | Integrated key fob with lock and unlock buttons; push-button start | A spare is a fob programmed to your car, from $170. |
| 2018–2024, SV and SR | Nissan Intelligent Key: walk-up unlocking, push-button start and remote engine start | The 2021 Kicks in my video; spare smart keys from $170. |
| 2025 Kicks Play (first generation carried over) | Sold in S and SV; the SV has the Nissan Intelligent Key | The same car as a 2018–2024 Kicks — I confirm the fob from the VIN. |
| 2025 and newer (second generation) | Nissan Intelligent Key with push-button start on every trim; walk-up unlocking and walk-away locking on SV and SR | A newer platform — send me a photo of the fob and the VIN first, and I tell you before I drive out whether I can do it on-site. |
Whichever fob your Kicks has, it is matched to the car’s immobilizer, so a copy has to be programmed, not just cut. You can read more about how these fobs work in my smart key explainer.
Lost every Kicks key?
A spare smart key on the Kicks is the job in the video above. A Kicks with no working key left is a different job, so send me the year, the trim if you know it, and the VIN, and I tell you honestly, before I leave, whether I can do it on-site. If I cannot, I say so, and it has cost you nothing.
Bought a used Kicks that came with only one fob? That is the moment to add a spare: from $170 now, against from $200 for an all-keys-lost job later.

Kicks fob acting up? What I check
Not every fob problem needs a new key.
- Doors unlock but the car will not start — often a fob the car no longer recognizes; I test it and program a working one.
- Remote start stopped working — on an SV or SR, battery first; if the fob has failed, a replacement is programmed at the car.
- Buttons worn or case cracked — a fob that is falling apart gets replaced and programmed before it quits completely.
Not sure which one it is? Send a photo of your Nissan Kicks key on WhatsApp and I’ll tell you what you need. You pay only once it works.
Frequently asked questions
- Does every Nissan Kicks use a push-button smart key?
- Yes, in practice. Nissan Canada has listed push-button start on every Kicks trim since the 2018 launch, so a new key is a fob programmed to the car, not a blade cut to fit. What differs is the fob: on the first generation the base S has an integrated key with lock and unlock buttons, while the SV and SR have the Nissan Intelligent Key with walk-up unlocking and remote engine start.
- How much is a Nissan Kicks key in Winnipeg?
- On a 2018–2024 Kicks or a 2025 Kicks Play, a spare fob starts from $170 — the integrated key on the S or the Nissan Intelligent Key on the SV and SR. Programming a fob or remote on its own starts from $160, and all keys lost from $200, taxes included. On a 2025-or-newer second-generation Kicks, send me a photo of the fob and the VIN first. A second key at the same visit is half price. You get the exact all-in price before I set out — outside Winnipeg a distance-based travel fee is part of it — there is no call-out fee, and you pay only once the key works.
- Can you make a Kicks key if I have lost all of them?
- Send me the VIN first. All keys lost starts from $200, and before I drive out I tell you honestly whether I can do your Kicks on-site, so you do not wait for a visit that ends without a key. Have your vehicle registration and a matching photo ID ready.
- My Kicks says no key detected. Do I need a new key?
- Not always. The first suspect is the coin-cell battery in the fob, which is an inexpensive part. If a fresh battery does not fix it, send me a photo of the fob and I tell you whether it needs re-programming or replacing.
- Is the key for a 2025 Kicks the same as the older one?
- No. The Kicks was redesigned for 2025, with the Nissan Intelligent Key and push-button start on every trim, while the older car carried on for 2025 as the Kicks Play. Send me a photo of your fob and the VIN, and I tell you before I drive out whether I can do yours on-site.
