Start with the fob battery
A weak or dead coin-cell battery inside the fob is the number one reason buttons stop responding. If you have a spare fob, try it. If the spare works fine, your first fob almost certainly just needs a fresh battery. These are inexpensive coin cells you can pick up at most stores, and swapping one in is usually a five-minute job.
